So which is the Greater Risk?

Child molesters – ChiMoes.  They are one of the few groups for which the law has found it necessary to continue punitive measures long after they have served their time. Among these are restrictions are where they can / cannot live.  Consider the California Law:

Jessica’s Law, approved by 70 percent of California voters a year ago, bars registered sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of a school or park where children gather.

It’s interesting to note, such measures do not exist for murderers. Murderers can live next door to a school and there is no ‘murderer registry’ that I am aware of. So which is worse? Having a ChiMoe next door or a Murderer? Or wouldn’t it be helpful in both cases to know?

That aside, Jessicas Law is going to come back to bite the California voters. When you consider how many parks there are and how many schools there are, it would severely limit the choices of where someone can live. And in this case, according to this article, it causes the ChiMoes to go homeless and disappear from view. So which is worse: Having the ChiMoe living near a school and knowing about it or having the ChiMoe invisibly roaming the streets? The first time we have some ChiMoe who disappeared from view due to homelessness and then re-offends, perhaps the voters will realize that this was not very well thought out.

California’s law requires parolees to live in the county of their last legal residence. But in San Francisco, for example, all homes are within 2,000 feet of a school or park.

Now don’t get me wrong – I am not in defense of ChiMoes. But isn’t it better to keep track of them than have them living in the woods where no one knows about them — until it’s too late?

Another Bush Cronie Bails

Karen Hughes, the spin mistress who is supposed to be bolstering our image abroad is bailing the sinking ship USS Bush.  The media is calling her a ‘failure’ and using spin phrases like ‘mission not accomplished’.  Blah Blah, Yada Yada.

The fact of the matter is she didn’t have much to work with.  One has to say she took a job that no one wanted and that few people would do under the current administration.  It was destined to fail given the direction USS Bush has taken this country.  That aside, the next one won’t have impact a change until the current administration runs out.  Lame Duck!

Sick Person

Very very sick young man!  What the hell is wrong with this young man. He’s a decent looking fellow and must certainly be able to attract ‘live’ women.  This is the kind of thing someone does when they’re inebriated.  The ordinary henries (hornies) don’t account for having sex with a dead woman (a 92 year old dead woman)!

A part-time lab technician at Holy Name Hospital was caught having sex with the body of a 92-year-old woman in the hospital’s morgue, authorities said Monday.

Larry Craig, Senator from the State of Denial

Larry Craig is someone who has tumbled off that precipice of high ranking office to the depths of ‘has been’ land in a very short time.  It’s degrading to watch him try to claw his way back up that precipice with all these strange maneuvers. First the hoping it would go away and all the flip flopping after that.  He was going to resign September 30, no wait, he changed his mind.  Then the legal challenges to reverse his guilty plea. The first one didn’t work as expected so now he’s digging up first amendment constitutional rights and error on the part of the judge. According to the AP article below:

Craig’s legal arguments are previewed in a “statement of the case” filed late Thursday. In addition to the constitutional argument, it says the judge erred by not allowing Craig to withdraw his plea, and that the judge who sentenced Craig to a fine and probation never signed anything saying he accepted the guilty plea.

Mr. Craig, that was YOUR guilty plea, not the judges, nor the arresting officer. I’m not sure about that last part (never signing anything) or what it means, but we shall see what happens. He’s pursuing all these legal channels to ‘clear his name’. But even in the unlikely event that Craig gets his guilty plea reversed, his name will not be cleared. There are too many questions: Too many flip flops, too many rumors and even a I had sex with Larry Craig story (warning it’s a dirty story) for his name to ever get cleared at this point. It was the Foley-esque story of the year. The big difference being of course, Mark Foley admitted his wrongdoing and went limping away. Larry Craig on the other hand is in a continuing state of denial and at the end of the day, people are still going to be bothered by these unanswered questions and flip flops.

Richardson – Too Much Too Late?

I’ve said it before: Richardson is the only candidate on the Democrat side with the right credentials.  Hillary or Barack as candidates will only hand the presidency to the Republicans again (probably Mitt, but Rudy’s tenacity continues to surprise).  I had forgotten that Richardson was a former UN ambassador (as well as being the New Mexico Governor) and he is back on the speech circuit. He points out his experience in diplomatic matters and leadership experience.  But who’s listening?  Where is the mainstream media attention?  Lost on.. Hillary and Barack.

Anti Iran Rhetoric – Haven’t we Been here Before?

Anti Iran sentiments have been spouting from GOP mouths of late and I am having Deja Vu sessions.  I remember 2002; ahhh… seems like it was just yesterday.  The Anti Iraq brouhaha was ramping up fresh on the heals of 9/11.  I remember thinking at the time; they can’t be serious.  Surely, Congress will not let BushCo get away with this!

But congress caved in, betrayed the American people, and authorized that illegitimate war.  Surely they won’t let him get away with it again? Fooled us once?  Or will they? Fooled us twice. How many times can the US afford to be fooled?

BushCo is in the lame duck days, but it still has GOP Support.  At the very least, there should be some very loud arguments about any military action against Iran at this point.  Last I read, opinions of Congress and Bush are at all time lows.  The best thing this Doolittle congress could do is stall the situation out until BushCo expires. Then take it up with Romney or Giuliani.

Barack Obama Starts Swinging

So much for the “Politics of Hope”. Barack Obama seems to have abandoned that idealistic notion in favor of the tried and true “Politics of Mudslinging”. Now his campaign will look just like any other: full frontal attack on the frontrunner.  And how we can blame him?  He’s lagging way behind Clinton in spite of the free ride that the mainstream media has given him (and continues to give him). So it’s no more Mr. Nice Guy hm? Consider what Mitt Romney had to say about Hillary Clinton:

She hasn’t run a corner store. She hasn’t run a state. She hasn’t run a city. She has never run anything. And the idea that she could learn to be president, you know, as an internship just doesn’t make any sense.

True and you can say the same thing about Barack Obama. He hasn’t done diddly; just a one term senator. He has no basis to criticize the leadership skills of other candidates.  The reason he looks so good to mainstream media and why they love him is he doesn’t have any baggage to haul around.  But the reason he has no baggage to haul around is because he’s a rookie who hasn’t had any significant leadship experience.

That all gets back to the Congressional factor doesn’t it?  It’s why Kerry could not beat Bush in 2004. And the Democrats are geared up to repeat the same mistake.  Putting senators at the forefront, not leaders.  It doesn’t matter whether Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton wins the Democratic Nomination – neither are electable. That’s right Ms. Mainstream Media, you can give him all the free rides you want and he’s still not going to be elected. Their only electable candidate is Gov. Richardson and he’s slipped off the radar – perhaps due to lack of funding, lack of support from the Democrats, lack of media attention, who knows.  But the way it looks at this stage: Republicans will keep the White House in 2008.

I’m More Conservative No I am No I am

Mirror Mirror on the wall, who’s the most conservative of all? Who cares. The GOP wannabees are battling over which one of them is the most conservative and what they should be scrambling for is the middle ground.

Extreme Left + Extreme Right = Nothing getting done. That is precisely what is happening in the do-little congress we’ve had for the past few years. If they want to be elected, they must scramble for the middle ground. That is exactly what Ron Paul has done and he barely gets a mention. Not that he stands a chance (see the Congressional Factor), but he sounds good and uses a ton of common sense. The common sense thing is what has won him a small, but vocal legion of fans.

I think he even has friends on the extreme left. I see that he doesn’t have an entry on RightWingFaceBook and every other main GOP candidate does. Oh what a nice face Rudy. I told you he’s going to have trouble with that cross dressing habit of his – what a drag!

Congress Wasting more Time with Armenian Measure?

Symbolic measures, condemn this, condemn that. Now it’s the Ottoman thing from 1915 almost 100 years ago. Is it like the House has nothing to do? I don’t think so. They’re supposed to be working on getting us out of Iraq (don’t hold breath). And all we get are symbolic measures?

This one smacks of special interest manipulation of congress. Who cares about something that happened 90+ years ago? It’s in the history books; history already condemns the act. This special interest condemning is only going to make few people happy (from what I’ve heard mostly living in Pelosi’s district).

Thankfully, it’s looking like the Reps came to their senses and are not longer supporting it. Madame House Speaker what were you thinking? For once I agree with Bush who said: “One thing Congress should not be doing is sorting out the historical record of the Ottoman Empire”. Certainly they have more pressing matters to work on!
